Traveling Through Route 66 is an experimental publication capturing the rich history of Route 66 in an accordion book format. This book covers the history of the route from the very beginning to the revival and restoration. When the book is flipped over, you will find a guide that will cover the most important attractions of each state.
Cover
The cover of the book features one of the roads that make a part of Route 66. It makes the cover as a way of making the reader feel like they are starting their journey along this road, which is long and seems to never end, as does the history of Route 66. The typefaces chosen are meant to mimic classic American car logos of the 50s. I believe there is no better way to describe Route 66 other than classic Americana.
Introduction
The main typeface used is the same one used for road signs and the signpost for Route 66. It is used for the main body copy throughout the book as it is a good legible typeface. The welcome paragraph describes what the book is and a short reasoning as to why it exists.
Historical Content
The first half of the book covers the history of Route 66 from before it was founded to its revival in modern day. Subheadings of the years are used to let the reader keep track of the story chronologically.
Photography
Lots of photography is used to capture the beauty of the sights of Route 66, both the natural and the attractions it has to offer.
Accordion
On the bottom of the page is a timeline of the years being talked about in the body copy. It's an easier way to find the specific date the reader is looking for, as well as a good visual metaphor for the road of progress. The road and illustrations all connect and make a 12-foot-long illustration when fully opened.

Attractions
Route 66 has a lot of attractions to visit. When the book is flipped over, the other side contains a detailed list of popular attractions on the road, categorized by state.
State Dedicated Pages
Each page is specifically made for each of the nine states that the road travels through and contains a brief description of the road and a list of ten attractions to visit.
